New functional materials that result from a combination of textile and nontextile technologies constitute an alternative to traditional systems for medicine and medical technology.

Examples in this field are knitted distance fabrics as shock absorption, divers sandwich structures as basis for adjustable heatable textiles. Inserted soles made of knitted distance fabrics, composite materials made by polymer-textile combination (leather, plastic, silicone) are launched increasingly.

Textile-based and textile-integrated sensors with good physiological properties in terms of wearing are used in hypothermedia prevention. In the area of sportsmedicine, new products as compression textiles and orthosis have been developed.

Further applications are medical hygiene products such as scrubs, matress covering, etc.
